Description
The Tividale Aqueduct, built in the 1890s, is a brick structure featuring sandstone keystones. It has two shallow segmental arches, with a narrower arch on the eastern canal bank that is now blocked and contains a doorway. There is a moulded band below a solid brick parapet. A plaque on the north side, to the left of the left-hand arch, is inscribed: "Rebuilt 189-". This aqueduct carries James Brindley's Old Main Line, constructed in 1769, over the Netherton Tunnel branch, located north of the tunnel entrance. The Netherton Tunnel itself was built in 1858 to enhance communication between the Dudley and Birmingham canals.
