Description

The Castle is an early 19th-century building located on Church Road in Old Swinford. It features an irregular design, constructed from red brick with some stucco elements. The windows are characterized by mullioned fenestration. The building includes a mock barbican gatehouse topped with a stepped gable, along with embattlements and turrets throughout its structure. While it is considered an extravagant example of castellation and lacks significant intrinsic merit, it fits well within its immediate surroundings. The listed buildings on Church Road and Rectory Road do not form a strict group, but the overall appearance is one that should be preserved.
