Description

The County Court is a mid-19th century building constructed of sandstone ashlar with a parapeted roof, built in the Italian Renaissance style. It comprises a two-storey main range with a three-storey wing set back on the left. The front facade has a five-window range of arched sash windows with margin lights; the first-floor windows are rounded, while the ground-floor windows are cambered. The first-floor windows are distinguished by elaborate architraves supported by brackets and topped with pediments. The ground-floor windows have aprons and moulded architraves, each featuring a prominent triple keystone. The central doorway is framed by a larger architrave, augmented with pilasters and a modillioned cornice supported on brackets, and incorporates carved Royal Arms in full relief. The ground floor exhibits channelled rustication and vermiculated quoins, along with a plinth and moulded string course. The first floor features quoins and an entablature with a modillioned cornice and blocking course. The ends of the building are single-windowed, mirroring the front and rear of the left wing in a simpler style and featuring sash windows. Rear extensions have been added.
