Description
The building is a teaching block with an attached gymnasium located to the northeast of the main block at Woodlands School, constructed between 1952 and 1957. It was designed by the City Architects Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Development Group. The structure utilizes the Hills 3'4" system, featuring a steel frame with precast concrete panels and a flat roof with a prominent roof slab. The rectangular teaching block consists of three storeys, while the gymnasium is a single tall storey. The design includes extensive glazing arranged in horizontal bands, with painted metal framed windows and plate glass.
This building is an integral part of the Woodlands School complex, which also includes the main block, workshop and science block, Arts and Crafts block, gymnasium block, two additional gymnasia, two further teaching blocks, five house blocks, and a cycle store to the east. Woodlands School was notable as an experimental design project and is recognized as one of the early purpose-built comprehensive schools.
