Main Block At Woodlands School Including Administration And Main Entrance, Main And Small Hall, Gym And Library

The Main Block at Woodlands School, which includes the administration area, main entrance, main and small halls, gym, and library, is a school building constructed between 1952 and 1957. It was designed by the City Architects Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Development Group. The building utilizes the Hills 3'4" system, featuring a steel frame with precast concrete panels and a flat roof with a prominent roof slab. It is an irregular structure with one and two storeys and has extensive glazing arranged in horizontal bands. The windows are painted metal framed with plate glass, and the walls of the Main Hall are adorned with coloured concrete slabs that create a simple pattern.

This building is an integral part of the Woodlands School complex, which also includes a workshop and science block, an Arts and Crafts block, a gymnasium block with two additional gymnasia, three further teaching blocks, five house blocks, and a cycle store to the east. Woodlands School was an experimental design project and is recognized as an early purpose-built comprehensive school.
