Description

The house block to the east of the linked teaching and gymnasium blocks at Woodlands School is a school building constructed between 1952 and 1957. It was designed by the City Architects Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Development Group. The building uses the Hills 3'4" system, featuring a steel frame with precast concrete panels and a flat roof with a prominent roof slab. It has an irregular 'L' shape and consists of one and two storeys, with extensive glazing arranged in horizontal bands. The windows are painted metal framed with plate glass.

This house block is an integral part of the Woodlands School complex, which includes the Main Block, Workshop and Science Block, Arts and Crafts Block, Gymnasium Block, two additional gymnasia, three more teaching blocks, and four further house blocks along with a cycle store to the east. Woodlands School was an experimental design project and is recognized as one of the early purpose-built comprehensive schools.
