Description
St Basil's Centre for Detached Youth Work was originally built as the church of St John and St Basil in 1910 by Arthur S Dixon. This small-scale Romanesque building is constructed of red brick and features a pantile roof. The west end has an apse that matches the east end, with doors on either side beneath small pantiled lean-to roofs, all set within a tall arched recess adorned with patterned brickwork in the tympana. Above this, there are two pairs of small arched windows in the gable. To the right, there is a gabled bell turret with two arches, one above the other, although the bell is missing. Inside, the building consists of four bays, and in the apse, there is a mosaic depicting Christ flanked by Saints John and Basil. The screen and pulpit remain in their original positions.
