Description
Nos 224 and 225 on High Street in Deritend date from around 1860. The building features polychromatic brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It stands five storeys high and consists of seven bays, plus a corner and another seven bays on the left-hand return in Milk Street. The ground floor has what appear to be original shop fronts, with panelled pilasters that support an entablature topped by a boldly bracketed cornice. The first, second, and third floors are adorned with sash windows that have shoulders and keystones, incised decoration, elaborately cut brick arch soffits, and bold sills. There is a lavishly bracketed moulded cornice at the second floor level. The fourth storey features square sash windows, and there is an elaborate bracketed eaves cornice. Most of the windows are currently blocked up.
