Description

This building is a cottage and outbuilding located northwest of number 42 Gas Street, likely constructed around 1800 for the Worcester and Birmingham Canal Company. It is made of brick and features a pitched slate roof. The main facade, which is painted, faces the canal, while the rear facade is on Gas Street. The structure is two stories tall, with an entrance that is offset to the right of center, flanked by two four-light sash windows that have chamfered arches and stone sills. There are two wall ties ending in square cast iron plates at the first floor. The first floor has four-light sash windows that align with those below, and there is a bricked-in window opening with a stone cill in the center. The building has a moulded eaves cornice and brick chimney stacks at each gable.

To the right of the main elevation, there is a lean-to brick structure with a slate roof, which features a multi-pane metal bay window and a doorway, possibly indicating it was a former toll office. The adjoining yard area to the right is enclosed by a curved brick wall, with a door opening that has been bricked up in the 20th century. Additionally, there is a lean-to brick outbuilding with a slate roof and a single chimney stack located in the yard. Stone steps lead from the yard up to street level through a timber gate in the wall.
