Description
Number 7 Lock on the Aston Canal Flight, part of the Birmingham/Fazeley Canal, dates from the mid-1770s. It is a single narrow lock featuring a single bottom gate, constructed from thick brick with stone dressings. Adjacent to the bottom gate is a cantilevered footbridge, likely built around 1840, which consists of cast iron girders with a wooden deck and low handrails at each end. The handrails are raised a few inches above the lock edge to facilitate the passage of a tow rope.
