Description
The Roving Bridge at Aston Junction, located on the Birmingham-Fazeley Canal, was built in 1828 by the Horseley Ironworks. This cast iron bridge provides access over the head of No 1 Aston Lock to the Digbeth branch canal. It features an elliptical arch made from two sections, with bolted central clasping stanchions. The bridge has a pierced balustrade in an X pattern, adorned with a quatrefoil band below the handrail. The deck panels are also bolted cast iron, and the bridge is supported by stone-dressed brick swept abutments.
