Description

ST PAUL'S SQUARE 1. 5104 Hockley B3 No 1 (formerly listed under City Centre) SP 0687 SE 29/37 21.1.70 II GV 2. Including Nos 28D and 28E Ludgate Hill. Circa 1780, three storey red brick town house on corner with Ludgate Bill. Three bay front with plinth and main stucco cornice with small modillion brackets, rebuilt parapet. Revealed sash windows, a few retaining glazing bars, painted stone sills and flat arches with grooved voussoirs and keystones. Moulded wood doorcase with festooned frieze and plain pediment. Plain return elevation extended down Ludgate Hill in 1860-70 by 10 bay 3 storey range of shopping. Red brick with some gault dressings, rendered ground floor; stucco sill bands. Close set iron framed small-paned works windows; round headed on first floor with brick panel above and segmental arched on second floor.
