Description
Nos 54, 56, and 58 Vittoria Street is a three-storey building located on a corner site with Regent Street in the Jewellery Quarter, built in 1905 by architects Essex Nicol and Goodman. The building is constructed of finely pointed red brick with terracotta dressings and features a broadly curved corner into Regent Street.
The façade has seven bays along Vittoria Street, with the seventh bay beginning the curve and followed by four broader bays around the corner. Plain brick piers rise from a moulded terracotta sill course at the first floor to a bracketed terracotta eaves cornice. The low slate roof is curved at the corner, and terracotta cornices adorn the chimneys.
The ground floor features broad windows that form an elliptical arched arcade, complete with weathered moulded terracotta sills. The upper floor windows occupy nearly the full width of the bays, showcasing segmental arches with keystones on the first floor and flat terracotta arches on the top floor, which act as a frieze between the piers. The corner windows have transomed plate glass glazing that is curved. There are three doorways on Vittoria Street, each with terracotta cornices and sections of entablature supporting segmental pediments, all made of terracotta. This building is an important feature of the corner site.
