Description

Field House is an early 19th-century building, with its core likely dating back to the 18th century. It features engraved cement and stands three storeys high, with a front that has three windows. The outer windows are tripartite sash windows with moulded cornices, while the central window has an arched head and interlaced pointed glazing bars. The ground storey includes a mid to late 19th-century projecting bay that is one storey high, featuring a central arched entrance and three sash windows on each side, coupled pilasters, a moulded cornice, and a low parapet. The recessed doorway has an arched head, a plain fanlight, and a door with modern metal facing. The building has projecting eaves that are lined and supported by wooden brackets, renewed brick stacks, and a hipped slate roof. Early 20th-century additions include a bay on the left side with a small paned gabled dormer that has a cement underhang, and on the returned side to the south, there is a four-light wood mullioned bay window that is tiered over the first and second storeys. At the rear, there is a long two-storey wing from around 1840. The large garden at the back is said to contain a Roman well.
