Description

9, St Agnes Road is an Arts and Crafts house dating to 1906, situated behind a swept driveway. It is a substantial two-story and attic building, largely of roughcast render, with timber framing to the first floor on the left side and decorative tile chequerwork. The house has a compact design, with shallow buttressing to the right side and a swept roofline over the porch, descending to the left. A shallower gabled projection breaks the roofline centrally. The roof is of Westmoreland slate, steeply pitched, with roughcast chimney stacks featuring diamond tile panels. Overhanging eaves are present. Lattice casement windows are typical. A large, canted bay window with lattice casements is located on the left-hand side. Above this bay, the first floor incorporates timber framing and a jettied section that overhangs the battered ground floor, supported by a carved bracket. The porch entrance is flanked by shallow buttresses and features a slightly bowed stucco lintel above the door, displaying the date and a blind lunette with tile chequerwork. A slightly projecting window to the adjoining, shallower gable, is topped with a small flat roof and features stained glass. Above it, a corresponding first-floor window has a chequerwork lunette. Weatherboarding is present at the apex of the gable.
