Description
No. 130 on Oxford Road is a modest detached house built around 1907, showcasing a self-conscious Arts and Crafts design. The two-storey structure is made of red brick, featuring a distinctive stepped front pitch of the tiled roof that sweeps down to the left over a timber-framed projection and a recessed porch, positioned next to a corner window. The house has flat eaves and a stuccoed gabled break to the right, which is adorned with two tall, diagonally set red brick chimney stacks that meet the ridge at the junction with the main roof. A weather drip is present in the gable, above a four-light low leaded casement window that has heart-pierced fixed shutters.
On the ground floor, there are prominent canted bay windows with leaded lights and a rosette-studded lead valance-eaves, along with a small side light to the left. The corner window, located to the left of the timber-framed two-light bay, features two mullion-transom leaded lights on both the front and side elevations, supported by a corner post on a brick base. Above, a gabled three-light dormer is set into the roof. The original front garden retains its layout, complete with crazy paved paths, steps, and clipped yews, along with a timber post and lintel gateway.
