Description

The Monument, also known as the Observatory, is a notable structure built in 1758 as a folly by John Perrot. It is constructed of red brick and stands six storeys tall, featuring an octagonal shape on a square base, with a round stair turret attached. Each storey has a single pointed window, except for the fifth storey, which includes an oculus. The top storey is adorned with an arcade that has stone dressings. The building is topped with a stone cornice and battlements. Inside, the top room boasts a complete Gothic plaster ceiling.
