Description
The Woodman Public House, located at 106 Albert Street in Digbeth, was built in 1896-1897 by the architectural firm James & Lister Lea. This two-storey building features a brick and terracotta exterior with a slate roof. The ground floor has round-arched entrances and segment-headed windows, while the first floor mirrors the ground floor's rhythm with narrow windows divided by glazing bars above the entrances and wider windows with brick mullions above the other windows. Gablets are present in the roof above the narrow entrance bays. Inside, the public bar retains its original counter and bar back, complete with engraved and gilded mirror glass and extensive tiling. The smoke room also features original seating and tiling. The Woodman is a relatively complete example of a small corner pub designed by these architects around 1900.
