Description

Fernside Cottage comprises a terrace of four small, two-storey red brick cottages located to the rear of number 84 Yardley Wood Road, in Birmingham. Numbers 2 to 4 date back to around 1800, while number 1 is a later addition from around 1850.

Architecturally, numbers 2 to 4 are characterised by segment-headed doorways and ground floor windows. The first-floor windows are flat-headed and run up into an eaves cornice created from projecting bricks. Number 2 features a timber trellis porch. The rear elevation displays three gables, with the projecting brick eaves cornice running around them, and chimney stacks rising from them. The roof is covered in undulating tiles. Segmental heads are present on the rear windows at both ground and first floor levels. Number 1 has a canted ground floor bay window and a chamfered lintel to the first floor window, along with a timber porch on its side.
