Description

The remains of Weoley Castle are located on Alwold Road in Weoley Castle, dating back to 1264 when Roger de Somery was granted permission to crenellate his manor house. The site features footings and foundations of a fortified manor house constructed from sandstone, which originally included six towers and a deep moat. A survey conducted in 1422 provides a detailed plan of the castle. Additionally, fragments of early 13th-century wooden buildings have been found, suggesting the early use of both horizontal and vertical weatherboarding.
