Description

Hawthorn is an early 19th-century building that has been altered and extended. It is constructed of painted brick and has a slate roof. The building features three storeys and three bays, with the central bay slightly advanced and topped with a pediment. The ground floor has an open porch supported by coupled Tuscan columns, which hold up a triglyph frieze and blocking course. On either side of the porch are tall sash windows. The first floor contains an arched sash window flanked by two single sash windows, and there is a broad band at this level. The second floor has three almost square sash windows and a bracketed eaves cornice. The later wings of the building are carried and advanced, featuring large tripartite windows on both floors. The ground floor on the right side includes a projecting canted bay window, with additional extensions further to the right. Inside, there is a staircase typical of around 1860, and a stained glass window signed and dated EB 1862. Another stained glass window displays the initials EB and the inscription 'Dieu donne toutes choses'.
