Description

This is a circa 17th century timber-framed cottage range, forming the eastern part of number 20. The eastern section of the building was later refronted using brick and stone. It has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with gabled ends. The cottage is two storeys high, with a five-window frontage. The first floor has five 19th-century three-light casement windows, each with a central horizontal sliding sash. On the ground floor of number 18 is a four-panel door, sheltered by a late 19th century gabled porch, along with a rectangular oriel bay window with a tiled roof supported on three brackets. Number 20 has a four-panel door and a two-light casement window, both under a lean-to tiled roof. There is also a four-light casement with a central horizontal sliding light, and a rectangular bay window with a tiled roof set into a bricked-up former carriage archway. A brick ridge chimney stack is situated on number 20. A mid-19th century, one-storey, one-bay building is attached to the west gable of number 18. This building is constructed of brick with a steeply pitched plain tile roof and a moulded brick eaves cornice, and is set back 3 feet from the front wall of number 18. It has a large mid-19th century sash window with glazing bars, under a rusticated lintel and cill, with timber framing visible in the west gable.
