Description
There are two pairs of gate piers located to the north and south of the drive leading to numbers 11-21 in Royal Leamington Spa. These gate piers were constructed around 1832, with some later alterations made to the southern pair. They are made of reddish-brown brick with stucco facades, which have been painted on the southern piers, while the northern piers feature cast-iron gryphons. Each pier is square in shape, measuring approximately 1 meter by 2 meters in height. They have a chamfered plinth, and the shafts exhibit chamfered angles with run-out stops at the upper stage. The southern piers are decorated with an incised anthemion motif. At the top, there is a stepped cornice that is surmounted by a two-stepped blocking course, which supports the gryphons holding a ball on the northern piers.
