Description
Stone Edge is a house dated 1909, designed by H Bulkeley Creswell of London for F Beresford Wright. It is built from sandstone ashlar in a Tudor style and features a stone slate roof with coped gabled ends. The house is two storeys tall and has a half H plan, with gabled cross wings at both the east and west ends, and a slightly recessed central portion on the south side. There are small subsidiary gables on the east, south, and north sides. The windows are small, mullioned stone designs with leaded lights. The entrance features a four-centred arch with an oak plank door, set within a stone doorcase that includes pilasters and an entablature adorned with strapwork carving and the date. The house has five stone chimney stacks with diagonally placed shafts. Inside, there is a fine contemporary interior that includes oak panelling, an oak staircase, chimney-pieces, and plaster cornices.
