Description
Reading Room Cottage is a circa 17th century timber-framed cottage featuring red brick infill panels. It has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with gabled ends and stands two storeys high, with one brick ridge chimney stack. The cottage has been extended to the east with an additional two storeys and to the west with one storey and an attic, but only the central old portion is of particular interest.
To the left of the central portion, there is a modern stone porch with a tiled roof, which includes two fixed lights with leaded panes. On the right side, there is a rectangular stone-faced bay window with glazing bars. The first floor features two small two-light casements with glazing bars, and there are two gabled dormers at eaves level, each with two-light casements that also have glazing bars. Inside, the timber framing is exposed, and there are chamfered ceiling beams.
