Description

Nos. 56 and 58 Bath Street are a pair of houses, now shops with flats above, dating to circa 1818, with later additions and alterations including mid-to-late 20th-century shop fronts. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond to the left, with a painted stucco front facade, and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is four storeys high with five first-floor windows arranged in a 2:1:2 layout; the central bay projects and is taller. Full-height, fluted Corinthian pilasters run through the first and second floors to the ends and on either side of the projecting bay. The first floor features three 3/9 sash windows, two tall 6/6 sash windows. The second floor has 6/6 sash windows with sills. A frieze with moulded decoration sits above, topped by a modillion cornice with acanthus and paterae decoration. The third floor has three 8/8 sash windows and two 6/6 sash windows. All windows are in plain reveals. The ground floor has glazed shop fronts and panelled doors. A dentil frieze is visible to the right, with a scroll and anthemion motif featured in the central upshot. End and rear stacks are present on the left. To the rear, there are 3/3 and 6/6 sash windows. The interior has not been inspected. Bath Street was a main street in the 18th century village of Leamington. Nos. 56-64 (even) form a group with Nos. 29-49 (odd) Bath Street.
