Description
The Avenue Public House is a pair of houses that were converted into a public house, built between 1832 and 1839, with later additions and alterations including early 20th-century bay windows. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco front facade and a Welsh slate roof.
It stands three storeys high and features four first-floor windows. The first floor has tall 6/6 sash windows, while the second floor has 3/6 sash windows, all set in plain reveals with tooled architraves and sills. There is a frieze and a low parapet. The building has two central entrances with boarded doors and overlights that include margin lights, framed by doorcases with Doric pilasters, a continuous frieze, and a cornice. On either side of the entrances are canted bays with casement windows and cornices. The building has tall end stacks with cornices, which have been rebuilt on the left side. The interior has not been inspected.
