Description
House, built between 1836 and 1837, later altered, and including attached railings. Designed by William Startin, it is now offices. The house is built of pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with a painted stucco facade, a Welsh slate roof, and cast-iron railings.
The house is two storeys with a basement and attic, featuring three windows on the first floor. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows with plain reveals and tooled, eared architraves and a cornice. The ground floor has a central 10-pane French window with margin lights, flanked by tall 6/9 sash windows, all with plain reveals and tooled, eared architraves. A part-glazed, panelled door with pilaster strips and sidelights is positioned to the right, accessed by five steps and set within a round-arched recess. End stacks are present. The ground floor has a continuous verandah with a balustrade decorated with an anthemion-and-circle motif.
The interior has not been inspected. The attached railings are lancet in style with a central gate.
Clarendon Place was laid out in 1825.
