Description

Haddon House is a mid-19th century villa, later adapted for use as a clinic and flat. The exterior is constructed from pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with painted stucco to the front and left return, and a Welsh slate roof. The building is two and three storeys high, with a higher, gabled, projecting section to the left, and a basement to the right. There are three first-floor windows on the right side. A chamfered plinth supports six roll-edged steps leading to a central entrance, which features a part-glazed, four-panel door with a cambered overlight within a chamfered surround. The entrance is set within a projecting porch with rusticated Tuscan pilasters supporting a basket arch containing a central keystone, over a frieze. A wide cornice continues as a first-floor band, terminating in a blocking course with a central blind balustrade. To the left of the entrance is a canted bay window to the ground floor, with two-over-two sashes between one-over-one sashes, beneath a rusticated arch with a keystone. A low parapet tops the bay. To the right is a tripartite window with two-over-two sashes flanking one-over-one sashes, with Tuscan pilasters between and to the ends. This is set within a flat, rusticated arch with a raised keystone. On the first floor, to the left, is a two-over-two sash in a moulded surround with a frieze and dentil cornice. A two-over-two sash is centrally placed with a moulded surround, and to the right is another tripartite window, matching the ground-floor design. A moulded sill is present. Wide eaves extend to the right. A second-floor band is visible to the left, with a two-over-two sash with a cambered head in a chamfered surround. Wide eaves to the gable act as an open pediment. End and rear stacks are present. The interior was not inspected.
