BALSALL CROMWELL LANE 5108 SP 27 NE 12/268 No 272 (Arnold's Farmhouse) GV II

Farmhouse. Late C17/early C18. Red brick with plain-tile roof, hipped to front, triple gables to rear. 2 brick ridge stacks. Stone plinth, brick pilasters to front, first-floor band and moulded brick modillion eaves cornice. 2 storeys, attic and cellar. 3-window range of 3-light central-opening casements either side 2-light over 4-panel door with gabled hood. Brick cambered arches. 3 skylights. Sides are blank and rear similar to front but with a 2-light attic casement in the larger gables on left and right. Interior: in room to front left are chamfered beams with ogee steps, chamfered joists and open fireplace with bressummer and salt and spice cupboards. Elsewhere are chamfered beams 4-and 6-panel doors, C18 cupboards with HL hinges, wide oak boards to 1st floor and attic, old purlins in roof, and winder stairs from 1st floor to attic. Stair to first floor part renewed c19.
