Description
The Southam headstone, located approximately 15 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St Leonard, commemorates Thomas Southam, who died in 1684. It is made of ashlar stone and features a shaped head and sides. The inscription panel is fielded and framed with a cable-moulded design, while the frieze above is adorned with palm branches. The sides of the headstone have fully rounded drops of fruit, and the cornice displays waterleaf moulding. At the top, there is a swag with a rose and two bows that support a cherub. This headstone is a well-preserved example of its kind.
