Description
The orangery at Charlecote Park, built in 1857, now serves as a tea room. It likely was designed by John Gibson. The structure is made of brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped parapeted roof with a skylight.
The exterior is a single-storey, symmetrical five-bay range, topped with a bracketed cornice and a parapet that displays pierced strapwork patterns similar to those found on the south wing of Charlecote Park. It has large ovolo-moulded cross-mullion windows, each with pairs of narrow plate-glass sashes. The entrance includes paired glazed doors topped by a similar overlight.
Inside, there are four cast-iron posts that support tie-beam trusses, along with a spine beam and raking struts. The roof is boarded and features a central skylight. The rear wall has two 20th-century openings, and there is a large round plaque with a grotesque mask at one end. The property is owned by the National Trust.
