Description
The Malt House is a house located in Charlecote, dating from the 17th century with a long addition from the late 18th or early 19th century to the south-west, along with later alterations. It features a timber-frame structure with brick infill and has gabled roofs covered with old tiles. The building includes a brick lateral stack with diagonal shafts and a stack at the front of the ridge.
The house is single storey plus an attic and has a four-window range, along with a later five-window range. The entrance is situated to the right of the center and consists of a plank stable-type door within a wooden frame, with an inserted entrance featuring a glazed door to the right. The fenestration is varied, with most windows having leaded glazing. The ground floor includes a 3-light casement window in the wing, another 3-light casement to the right of the wing, and two small 2-light casements flanking the entrance, along with two small lights at the right end. The first floor has a pair of 2-light casements in the wing and three gabled dormers, featuring a 3-light casement flanked by 2-light casements.
The later addition has segmental-headed windows with mostly 20th-century 2-light casements, a 3-light casement to the left, and two gabled dormers, along with 3-light casements on the return and a single-storey rear wing. The interior has not been inspected. The house is likely depicted in a painting from around 1696 that is displayed in the great hall of Charlecote Park.
