Description

Charlecote Gardens is an estate cottage built in 1839 for George and Mary Lucy of Charlecote Park. The building is constructed of brick with blue brick diapering in a heart pattern, which is inspired by Charlecote Park, and features ashlar dressings. It has a tiled roof with two brick lateral stacks at the rear, also with ashlar dressings.

The cottage is two storeys high with a basement and has a four-window range. It features a top cornice and a diapered brick parapet with stone coping. The entrance is accessed by two flights of steps flanking a segmental-headed basement entrance, which has an architrave and a 20th-century glazed door. The double-chamfered mullioned windows have label moulds and decorative leaded glazing, with some stained glass. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light windows to the left and a single-light and a 2-light window to the right. The first floor projects on two pairs of iron posts, forming a porch over the entrance with a 2-light window. The original rainwater goods are still in place.

The left side of the building has a tall 3-light window on the ground floor and a shorter 3-light window above. The rear features some mullioned windows. There is a large late 20th-century addition at the right end, designed to harmonize with the original style.

Charlecote Gardens is located near the former kitchen garden of Charlecote Park, on the bank of the river near Hiorn's Bridge.
