Description

The Pump House is a former spa pump house, later converted into a house, dating to 1837. It is constructed of brick with a tile roof, featuring a brick cross-axial stack and end stacks with octagonal shafts.

The exterior is two storeys and includes a central gabled wing with decorative fascia and bargeboards. The entrance is within a recessed angle of the wing and is framed by Tudor arches to the front and return, featuring a panelled door and small-paned side lights. A blind Tudor arch sits to the right. A French window is set within chamfered reveals to the left end, and two Tudor-headed windows with small-paned casements are positioned to the right, with a similar window to the right return lean-to addition. The first floor contains a canted oriel on brackets with a cornice and 1:2:1-light leaded glazing; a pointed light with a moulded sill is present in the gable, and a two-light casement is set to the return.

The left return has a canted end with Tudor-headed windows in chamfered reveals, which may have originally been open. First-floor windows on the left return feature two-light casements. The rear elevation is similar and includes a stack with clustered octagonal shafts.

The interior of the building has not been inspected.

The building was originally constructed with a verandah flanking the front gable and continued to the left return. It was built for the unsuccessful Royal Victorian Spa and is believed to be the first building named after Queen Victoria.
