Description
This is a 19th-century barn located approximately 50 meters north of Lower Ingon Farmhouse in Hampton Lucy. The barn is constructed of brick laid in Flemish bond and features an old tile roof.
The exterior consists of a three-bay structure with a top modillioned brick cornice and a course of ventilation holes just below it. On the south side, there is a segmental-headed entrance with plank doors and a diamond-pattern breather to the left. To the right of the entrance, there is an attached stable and outbuilding. The rear of the barn has an entrance with rebates for missing doors and diamond-pattern breathers on each side, as well as similar breathers on the gables. The west end also has an attached stable and cow shed range. The roof is gabled.
Inside, the barn features 19th-century king post trusses with diagonal struts. There is a segmental-headed pitching hole that opens into the stable. The east end has an attached single-storey range with two wide openings on the north side, one of which is partly blocked with a shuttered opening. This barn is part of a group of buildings that surround three sides of the farmyard to the north of Lower Ingon Farmhouse.
