Description
A terrace of seven houses dating to around 1830, situated on the south side of Main Road, Tiddington, and including No. 1 New Street. The houses are constructed of brick with buff brick headers, stucco dressings, and have a hipped slate roof with brick end stacks and two cross-axial stacks. They are built in a Georgian style, with two storeys and a ten-window front, arranged to create three symmetrical compositions, with an additional window at the right end belonging to No. 1 New Street. The eaves are plain. Pairs of entrances, featuring Tuscan doorcases and overlights, are situated above four-panel doors. Other entrances feature friezes and cornices above plank doors. The windows have sills and rusticated wedge lintels with keys over twelve-pane sashes. Two first-floor windows have been inserted; one to No. 34 with a wedge lintel and one to No. 40. The right end features a canted bay window with a hipped roof and eight, twelve, and eight-pane sashes, with a blind window above. The return side to New Street has a four-window range with similar detailing, including an entrance with a 20th-century door and windows with sixteen-pane sashes on the ground floor and twelve-pane sashes on the first floor. A stack is located at the end. This is a good example of well-preserved early 19th-century houses.
