Description

The Priory is a house with an adjoining range, likely built in the early to mid 18th century, although it has earlier origins and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building features pinkish-brown brick at the rear and painted pebble-dash on the front facade, topped with Welsh slate and plain-tile roofs.

The exterior consists of two storeys with a three-window range at the center, flanked by single-storey, single-bay ranges on either side. The central entrance has two roll-edged steps leading to a part-glazed six-panel door, which is set in a fielded-panel surround. This door features an overlight with glazing bars, and is framed by fluted pilasters, scrolled corbel brackets, and a hood with a dentil cornice. Above the door, there is a painted hatchment with the motto "integritas in proposito," while the first floor has eight-over-eight sash windows. The building is capped with a wide modillion cornice and a hipped roof.

The side ranges each have tall elliptically-arched recesses at the center, now fitted with wooden casements, and an additional inserted casement on the left. The left range has a modillion frieze, and there are tall stacks on the left and at the rear.

Inside, the property features boxed beams. The name "The Priory" is derived from a small Benedictine priory or cell that was dependent on Conches.
