Description

The Old School is a mid-18th century building that originally served as mill buildings, later adapted as a Roman Catholic school, and now converted into dwellings. Constructed of painted pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, it features a plain-tile roof. The building is arranged in an L-shape.

The exterior has two storeys and five first-floor windows. The first floor displays six-over-six sash windows with horns and elliptical arches above, along with brick sills. The ground floor features an off-centre 20th-century part-glazed door and four matching windows with tile sills. The roof is double-hipped.

Inside, the first floor reveals a king post roof with an exposed wall-plate, purlins and transverse beams. Evidence of three wide cambered cart arches on the ground floor indicates the building’s original use as a cart shed with a drying/storage area above, associated with the former Wootton Mill.
