Description
Cambray House is an 18th-century house featuring wings with a central block and alterations from around 1830. It is constructed from regularly coursed ironstone, with the ground floor made of large ashlar blocks and a splayed cornice. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there is an ashlar end stack on the right side. The building has a T-plan layout, with a wing at the rear, and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range.
The front of the house is regular and balanced, though not entirely symmetrical. The entrance, located to the left of the centre, has a moulded four-panelled door. The porch features pilasters and columns with moulded capitals of no specific order, an entablature on the sides only, and a crenellated top. The windows are three-light casements with glazing bars throughout, and two-light casements on the second floor. All openings are framed with irregular ashlar block surrounds and stone lintels that include flush keystones.
There are high one-storey wings on either side. The left wing has a gable parapet and an ashlar end stack, along with a blocked upper opening that has a wooden lintel. The right wing has a hipped roof and a blocked doorway to the right of a window. The interior has not been inspected, and it is possible that the wings were originally farm buildings.
