Description

A row of three cottages situated in Avon Dassett, dating to the mid-18th century, 1707, and early 19th century. Numbers 1 and 2 are constructed of regular coursed ironstone, while number 3 is of ironstone ashlar. Numbers 1 and 2 have a slate roof, and number 3 has tiles, all with coped gable parapets and kneelers, with brick ridge and end stacks. Number 3 has an L-plan, with a short, slightly projecting wing forming number 1 on its right. The cottages are two storeys and attic, with a five-window range. Number 3 has a single storey and attic range on the left, partly an outbuilding, with a hipped roof and a C20 stable door and open porch, alongside a casement dormer.

The mid-18th century range, number 3, features an entrance to number 2 in the right corner, with an 18th-century single moulded panelled ledged door set within a painted chamfered wood frame and a stone flat arch. Numbers 1 and 2 have a blocked 2-light window and a 4-light stone-mullioned window respectively, both with hood moulds. The first floor has 18th-century leaded 3-light casements, with a stone flat arch to the left and a wooden lintel to the right, with a C20 light above the door. Number 1 has a C20 door in the left return side, and C20 casements. The right return side of number 1 features 3-light and 2-light mullioned attic windows with hood moulds, and a C20 attic casement. A catslide roof is present.

To the rear, facing The Drive, there are blocked doorways to a former through passage and a blocked doorway on the right, with small windows inserted; mullioned windows with hood moulds. Numbers 1 and 2 are a two-window range, with 4-light, 3-light, and 2-light attic windows. Number 3 has 4-light windows, and two 19th-century two-light casement roof dormers with fish scale tiles.

The interior of number 2 includes an open fireplace with a cambered, chamfered bressumer, stepped-stop broad-chamfered ceiling beams, and chamfered joists. A cupboard with butterfly hinges is also present. A first-floor room mirrors this with similar ceiling beams, a cupboard, and a door of two vertical panels with a wooden latch.
