Description

The pair of houses at 2 and 3 Church Street date from the 17th century, with a front facade dating to the early 19th century. They are timber-framed buildings with plaster infill, and have a front of colour-washed brick with a brick dentil cornice. The roofs are hipped and covered in slate; brick chimneys are present. The buildings have a U-plan and are three storeys high, with a four-window front. The central entrances have a 6-panelled door with two glazed panels at No.2, and a half-glazed door at No.3, each with simple moulded wooden surrounds and hoods supported by shaped brackets. The windows are sash windows with segmental brick arches. On the ground floor, No.2 features a late 19th-century canted bay with a single 6-pane sash, while No.3 has two 16-pane sashes. The left return side has been rendered. A two-storey timber-framed wing with a tile roof is present, and a lias chimney stack features two diagonally-set square briquette shafts at the junction of the wing and front range. Modern casement windows are found on this wing. The first floor of the return side displays two blocked original windows, each with five narrow lights and wooden mullions. The interior has not been inspected.
