Description
1 Church Street, also known as Windsor House, is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with close studding and lath and plaster infill. The ground floor is underbuilt in plastered brick, topped by an old tile roof and a brick internal stack. It has a three-unit plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and has a three-window range. The shop entrance at No.1 includes a late 19th-century half-glazed four-panelled door and 20th-century canted bay shop windows, all covered by a continuous lean-to roof across the facade. The first floor has late 20th-century sash windows. The left side of the building facing Henley Street retains close studding, a hipped roof, and a brick stack. The rear of the building is obscured by later additions.
Inside, the building features exposed framing and broad chamfered ceiling beams, along with a straight flight staircase. There is also a late 19th-century single-storey addition on the right.
