Description
Burton Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1714, with the garden front rebuilt or refaced in the late 18th century. It features an early to mid-19th century right wing and a mid-19th century addition to the left, along with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone, while the garden front is made of ashlar with a simple cornice. The left range is built of red brick with a dentil cornice. The roofs are slate, with old tiles on the garden front, and have coped gable parapets, along with brick end and internal stacks. The farmhouse is L-shaped, with two storeys and an attic, and has a four-window range. A 20th-century porch with glazed doors is located on the left side. The main range includes two 20th-century casements and a sash window, while the first floor has sash windows. A datestone on the first floor displays the initials RT. The right wing has a shallow-pitched roof, with a 20th-century casement on the ground floor and two-light casements with glazing bars on the first floor. A 19th-century brick outshut on the left side features a four-panelled door and two 2-light casements. The left range is windowless and one storey with an attic, but the return side has a French window in a segmental arch on the first floor. The garden front is taller and symmetrical, with a three-window main range. A mid-19th century stone porch has a round arch, with round-arched windows on the sides, all featuring keystones. Inside, there is a late 18th-century quarter-turn staircase with stick balusters and a moulded handrail.
