Description
The right gatepier and attached wall, located approximately 180 meters southeast of numbers 1, 2, and 3 Humblebee Cottages, date from the mid to late 17th century. The gatepier is constructed of limestone ashlar and stands about 2.5 meters high, featuring an elaborately moulded plinth and cornice, with shaped sunk panels on each face. The wall, made of red brick in Flemish garden wall bond, is approximately 2 meters high and has been reduced from its original height of 2.5 meters, with a high plinth. A section of the right return of the wall is missing. Together with the left gatepier and attached wall, they create a large walled enclosure of about 35 meters square, which likely served as the kitchen garden for Chesterton House, which was demolished in 1802.
