Description
The structure is a churchyard wall located on the south side of the Church of St Peter, dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a high wall with gabled coping. The western half of the wall, approximately 40 meters long, includes a high offset plinth and buttresses, as well as a pointed-arched gateway at the west end. A buttress at the opposite end of the south aisle separates this section from the eastern half, which is about 35 meters long and has an offset plinth and an additional offset halfway up the wall, ending with a 2-meter-wide buttress.
There are three early 18th-century headstones belonging to members of the Smith family located against the wall at the west end. These include Anthony Smith, who died in 1700, and his brother Anthony, who died in 1707; both have shaped tops with cherubs above shield-shaped inscription panels. The third headstone is for William Smith, who died in 1720 and is noted to be damaged, and Samuel Smith, who died in 1776.
