Description

Pear Tree Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th or 17th century, with an early 19th-century wing. The structure features part timber framing with square framing, lath and plaster, and whitewashed brick infill, while the remainder is made of regular coursed lias. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there is a lias stack with a brick shaft. The wing is constructed of brick and some lias, with the left side and part of the end wall finished in imitation ashlar stucco and a damaged moulded string course. The left side has a slate roof, while the right side has a tile roof and a brick and rendered stack. The building is in an L-plan and has one storey with an attic, consisting of three bays. The entrance features a 20th-century glazed door with a wood lintel. The windows are irregularly placed, including 19th and 20th-century casements, mostly with glazing bars, and one older leaded light. There are two small 20th-century dormers. The wing has two ground-floor windows with cambered arches. The left return side of the main range displays a timber-framed gable, and there is a large late 20th-century ground-floor bay window with a tile roof, along with two small casements on the first floor. The right return side is partly rendered on the first floor. At the rear, there is a low outshut on the left with a roof sloping down to approximately one metre in height. Inside, the cottage features broad-chamfered ceiling beams, an open fireplace, winder stairs, an early 19th-century straight flight staircase, and panelled doors.
