Description
The Ford headstone, located approximately 23 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Leonard in Charlecote, dates from 1680 and commemorates Edward Ford. It is made of ashlar and features a nowy-headed design. The inscription panel is framed by intricate carvings of foliage, fruit, and roses, with a cherub at the top that interrupts the cornice. The side scrolls are adorned with drops of fruit, while the head displays a swag with a cherub and two bows supporting Father Time, who holds an hour-glass and scythe. There are small jewelled panels on each side and a cornice or hood above. The back of the headstone has a worn verse inscription. This headstone is a well-preserved example, showcasing rich carving details.
