Description

A row of four cottages located on Church Lane, Lighthorne, dating to the mid-to-late 18th century, although No. 2 is said to have origins as early as 1642, as evidenced by a date on its chimney. The cottages are constructed of squared coursed limestone and have a tile roof with brick ridge and end stacks. Numbers 1 and 3 have a two-unit plan, while numbers 2 and 4 have a single-unit plan. They are arranged as a seven-window range, with one and a half storeys and an attic. No. 1 has a central plank front door. Windows are largely modern three- and two-light casements with painted wooden lintels, although No. 2 retains some older two-light casements, with part-leaded glazing on the left, a single light to the right of the door, and a small two-light casement in the staircase. No. 2 also includes a six-panelled door. No. 3 has a late 20th-century glazed porch, and numbers 3 and 4 have late 20th-century part-glazed doors and two- and three-light casements with wooden lintels. Throughout the row are shallow eyebrow dormers. The interior of No. 2 features an open fireplace and ceiling beams.
