Description

17, 18, and 19 Bridge Street are three townhouses that have been converted into shops. They were built in the early 19th century, with No. 18 completed in 1832. The buildings are finished in stucco and feature a slate roof behind a parapet. They stand three storeys high and have a three-window range, with a single-window range for No. 17 on the left and a two-window range for No. 19 on the right.

No. 18 is distinguished by giant Ionic pilasters, an entablature, and a parapet with three panels. No. 17 has quoins at its left end and a cornice with modillions, while No. 19 features a sill band on the second floor and a simple cornice and parapet at the top. The ground floor has a large late 20th-century entrance flanked by rounded bay windows with colonnettes, deep friezes, and cornices. No. 17 has a similar bay window to the right of its entrance, which is topped by a rusticated wedge lintel above a six-fielded-panel door. No. 19 has a 20th-century ground floor.

On the first floor, the windows have sills and feature 12-pane sashes, with No. 17 showcasing a canted bay window with four-pane sashes and a lead hipped roof, while No. 19 has 16-pane sashes. The second floor has nine-pane sashes flanking a blind window, with No. 19 again having 16-pane sashes. Nos. 18 and 19 were previously listed together in 1972, and since then, No. 17 has been incorporated into No. 18, which is now linked with Nos. 2 and 3 High Street. No. 19 was originally part of this incorporation.
